If last week was loose, this was the flip. We put our communication skills to the test in this one, in our most direct episode to date. We start with a full debrief from Episode 10 and hashed out disagreements and assumptions. We talk about the ways in which we've learned how improve our communication with family, too. A community member submits a question we end with about knowing when to cut someone important, but toxic, out of our lives.

We admit, this was the loosest we've been on this podcast. Jordan was delirious and shares both his amazing but long day, and some shit news he got this week. Our Facebook Live feed got cut, but not before we call out Kevin The Drummer who actually drives over and joins us on this episode. We think he's the blueprint for being a successful artist...and he's only 20. Many of you will see yourselves in him and we hope his story inspires you. Matt explains why we should always be prepared for gigs and Justin shares how he learned to become present when performing...for the second time.

It's been a month since we've seen each other and we're excited to catch up in person. Matt shares his experiences from the European tour. Jordan and Justin talk about the community members that have reached out and the connections they've made. We also note how some of you have stepped up as leaders in our Facebook group. Some other topics we dig into include: knowing your audience for effective communication, presenting to the world in authentic ways, when experiencing stress is actually a good thing, and differences in dealing with the loss of a pet.

Recorded the night before Matt leaves for Periphery's European tour, he shares his feelings about returning to the same places he played when dealing with the death of his dog, Charlie. He talks about his support system and the experiences he's also looking forward to...including food. And then we talk more about food. Jordan explains how pro wrestling inspires him as an entrepreneur. Justin answers a CC community member's question about rehabbing his knee as a drummer. And we talk shit on people who ask artists for autographs only to sell them.

Justin and Matt just finished their workout before the episode so we chat fitness for a good bit. We talk about the importance of listening to our bodies. This includes both our physical selves and also the energy and emotions within us. As teachers and facilitators, we discuss planning or not planning for each gig. As people who share content online we talk dealing with negativity and knowing the difference between possible constructive criticism and a troll. We finish again with a question from the CC community about bouncing back from setbacks and bad days.

Matt goes in depth about his US tour, including the unfortunate passing of his student. We talk about death and how it can be the ultimate motivator for making the most of our time here. Jordan calls bullshit on “masculinity” in our culture which somehow leads us to balancing downtime and productivity when not having a 9-5. We then answer a question from one of our community members about pivoting when faced with a major setback.

Sunday May 07, 2017
Recorded the day after Matt returned from his US Spring 2017 tour, Jordan and Justin share their experience after attending Periphery's hometown show. We share why this podcast began and the steps we took to publish Episode 1. With this in mind we go deep on resistance and fear and how to strike the balance between planning and execution. This leads us to the importance of expanding one's self awareness...even when it's hard. Deep shit, indeed.

Recorded just before Periphery's 2017 Spring US tour, Matt discusses his daily routine when on the road and why breakfast is his meal of the day. We start and end with Matt geeking about the new “It” trailer. (Justin's intrigued. Jordan's asleep.)

We were all challenged by Matt in Episode 2 to try his exercise answering the question, "What do I want to do with my life?" This week we report back in this exercise of self awareness and goal setting. We also spend the first half of this episode discussing how we create boundaries between our personal needs and business responsibilities. And how's this for bookends...we end with our childhood "show and tell" stories and start with proper technique for taking a shit.

Jeff Holcomb is well on his way to becoming the real "most interesting man in the world" and Matt took some time out on tour to interview him. Jeff is Periphery's lighting director, but he's also a talented director, musician, out-doors-man, traveler, and professional risk taker.
In the first part of this special satellite episode, Jeff tells us his story and includes everything from leaving home as a child because of a volcanic eruption, to riding his bicycle down the west coast of the USA, and much, much more.
Listen to Part 1 now and let us know if you think Jeff truly is the real most interesting man in the world!
